You'll handle real plots and ideas, not simplified summaries. Every story has its original version too, waiting for when you're ready.
Can you read Chinese novels at HSK 5?
Graded ones, comfortably. Unadapted ones, with effort and a dictionary. HSK 5 gets you to roughly half the vocabulary of an educated native reader, so original novels are readable but slow. Graded novellas let you enjoy the story at full speed now, then switch to the original once the words have stuck.
How do you go from HSK 5 to reading originals?
Read the graded version first, then the original of the same story. You already know the plot, so your brain fills the gaps from context instead of stalling on every new word. Do this across ten or twenty stories and the jump stops feeling like a jump. It's the fastest bridge from graded reading to the real thing.
